If you're seeking a short break in the Spanish sunshine, Marbella is one destination certain to tick all the right boxes. Although many holidaymakers come here to enjoy the pleasant weather, the region offers plenty of other things for people to see and do.
Within minutes of heading out from your luxury Marbella villa you will find an array of activities and attractions to catch your interest, so there's no need to fear boredom setting in.
Try fantastic sports and outdoor activities
Golf lovers in particular will find Marbella an exciting place to spend a couple of days away. There are around a dozen golf courses situated in the region, so there are plenty of places where you can tee off.
The 27-hole La Quinta resort gives players the chance to take in astounding views of the Mediterranean Sea as they attempt to make it to the fairways. Designed by Ryder Cup champion Manuel Pinero, the course is split into three nine-hole areas and has hosted a number of prestigious events, so it will certainly challenge amateurs and professionals alike.
Situated in the heart of Marbella, the 18-hole Santa Clara course is another great place to play golf. The 12th, 13th and 14th holes here are nicknamed the Santa Clara Corner, a particularly demanding section that requires long shots.
There are several horse riding and tennis clubs, while the nearby Sierra Blanca hills are ideal for walking and mountain biking. Of course, Marbella's location next to the sea also makes it a fantastic spot for water sport enthusiasts.
You can try your hand at everything from wakeboarding to jet skiing here, although if you're more interested in sailing you should head to Puerto Jose Banus. This is the largest marina in Marbella and, as it has space for over 900 vessels, you can take excursions on a wide range of watercraft.
Relax on golden beaches
Of course, a holiday to Marbella needn't be all about adrenalin-pumping pursuits and the destination is also a great place for relaxing on the beach. The region's coastline stretches for 26 km, so you can easily spend a couple of hours relaxing on a sandy spot to take in sea views and work on your suntan.
One of the many beaches you can visit is El Ancon, a narrow sweep of golden sand that is 950 m long, while at Playa Fontanilla (situated near Marbella Port) you can try a range of water sports before sitting down on the sand to relax. Among the most popular beaches in the region is Playa de San Pedro de Alcantara, which is 3 km long and tends to become very busy during the summer months.
See fascinating architecture
It's worth taking the time to explore Marbella's rich history, which dates back to Roman times, during your holiday. This can easily be done by visiting the old town district, which contains an array of historic buildings, including the 16th-century town hall. You should also see the Renaissance-era Plaza de Los Naranjos and the 15th-century Ermita de Santiago, or the Santiago Chapel as it translates in English, which was the first church to be built in the area.
Head to San Pedro Alcantara, meanwhile, and you will see the Villa Romana de Rio Verde. While large parts of this Roman villa lie in ruins, the remaining elements are truly fascinating. Make sure you check out the paved mosaic that has a jellyfish head as the leitmotif.
Marbella is a wonderful destination for sun-seekers and culture vultures alike. Visit Premier Holidays and you will find an array of luxury Marbella villas that will provide you with somewhere comfortable to stay.
